Frequently asked questions
How does the crossword solver work?
Enter what you know about the answer: the letters you've already filled in, and a # (or ?) for each empty square. For a seven-letter answer where you have the first and last letters, you'd type c#####d. We return every dictionary word that fits those exact positions and that length.
Can it solve a clue like 'Capital of France'?
No — and that's deliberate. This is a pattern solver: it works from the letters and length, which is what you actually have once a few crossing answers are in. Clue-to-answer lookup would mean republishing other people's crossword content, which we don't do. Fill in a couple of crossing letters and the pattern solver narrows it down fast.
Does the number of # signs matter?
Yes. The total length of what you type is the length of the answers returned, so c#####d returns seven-letter words only. If you're not sure of the length, try the word unscrambler instead.
