How to play

Fill the grid so every row, every column, and every 3×3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. Click a cell and type a number, or use the on-screen pad. Turn on Notes to pencil in candidates, tap Check to flag mistakes, and Hint to reveal the next logical step and why it works.

Hints that teach, not just tell

The hint button doesn’t just fill a cell — it names the technique. A “naked single” is a cell where only one digit can go; a “hidden single” is a digit that fits only one cell in its row, column, or box. Learning to spot those two is most of what makes Sudoku click. Stuck on a puzzle you found elsewhere? Paste it into the Sudoku solver.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Sudoku free to play?

Yes — it's completely free, with no sign-up and no app to install. It runs in your browser and works offline once the page has loaded.

How do you play Sudoku?

Fill the 9×9 grid so that every row, every column, and every 3×3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. Click a cell and type a number, or use the on-screen pad. You never guess — each digit can be placed by logic from the ones already given.

Is there a new puzzle every day?

Yes. A fresh daily puzzle rolls over shortly after midnight, and you can also pick from four difficulty levels — easy, medium, hard, and expert — whenever you want a different challenge.

How do the hints work?

The Hint button doesn't just fill a square — it names the technique and explains why the digit fits, like a 'naked single' (a cell where only one number can go) or a 'hidden single' (a number that fits only one cell in its row, column, or box). It's built to teach the logic, not just hand you the answer.

Can I check for mistakes and use pencil marks?

Yes. Turn on Notes to pencil candidate numbers into a cell, and tap Check to flag any entries that don't match the solution so you can catch a slip before it spreads.

Can I solve a Sudoku from a newspaper or another app?

Yes — type the puzzle into our Sudoku solver and it returns the completed grid, or a step-by-step path if you'd rather work it out with hints.
